オリジナル・アルバムとしては『Fade』以来5年ぶりとなるYo La Tengoの新作『There’s A Riot Going On』が、3月16日にMatadorからリリース。その中から一気に4曲が公開されました。一目でわかる通り、Sly & The Family Stoneの1971年のアルバム『There’s A Riot Going On（暴動）』と同タイトルな訳ですが、Matadorのサイトでは、1971年当時にも通じる混乱や不安や分断という状況下において、Yo La TengoはSlyのアルバムのダークなエネルギーとはまた違った、怒りや絶望に対抗する別な手段を提示していると説明されています。なるほどこの4曲はいずれもYo La Tengoのソフトでジェントルな側面のトラックばかりですね。アルバムのプロデュースや録音はすべてメンバー3人で行い（ミックスは後日John McEntireが担当）、事前のリハーサルもジャム・セッションも無く、レコーダーを回しっぱなしで制作したそうです。ちなみにYouTubeにオフィシャルで上がっているアルバムのトレーラー的な音源は、この4曲を同時再生したものと思われます。
